The
Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative
Medicine (APOM) has approximately 60
anesthesiologists, 27 residents and 20 certified
nurse anesthetists, who deliver anesthesia care to
patients for more than 33000 procedures/year. This
care is provided in a number of different locations
and also divided into many clinical subspecialty
areas.
OHSU utilizes 36 operating rooms (ORs), in four
separate OR suites for care of adult inpatients,
outpatients and obstetric patients. Patients needing
eye surgery are cared for at the Casey Eye Hospital
and children at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
APOM
also provides anesthesia/sedation services for a
large number of procedures outside the OR
environment.
APOM’s
Comprehensive Pain Center, cares for patients with
long standing pain problems as well as patients with
acute postoperative pain.
APOM
anesthesiologists, with specialty training in
critical care, provide care in the surgical and
cardiac intensive care units.
In
addition to pain management and critical care, there
are a number of areas within the anesthesiology
specialty where the care is provided either by an
anesthesiologist with long experience in the area or
with formal training in the subspecialty. These
anesthesia specialty areas include: Ambulatory,
Cardiac, Neurosurgery, Obstetric, Regional,
Thoracic, Vascular and Pediatric Anesthesia.
