Obstetric Anesthesia at OHSU is one of
the main Divisions of the Department of Anesthesiology
and Peri-Operative Medicine. Members of the Obstetric
Anesthesia Division jointly run the OHSU Labor and
Delivery Suite with the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology. The highly successful Center for Women's
Health offers as part of its services low-risk and
high-risk obstetric management, and obstetric care is
available through this program as well as the Family
Medicine Department and the Certified Nurse Midwife
Program. The Obstetric Anesthesia Division integrates
smoothly with all three groups of obstetric providers to
assure the parturient of state-of-the-art,
round-the-clock obstetric anesthesia services when she
desires. Although the mainstay of obstetric anesthesia
is the lumbar epidural anesthetic, we also provide a
variety of other modalities as the situation warrants or
the mother wishes.
The obstetric anesthesia service also integrates with
the Acute Pain Management division of the department to
provide seamless postoperative analgesia services for
parturients who undergo Cesarean section.
