Doernbecher Pediatrics, Anesthesia
Pediatric Anesthesiology The Pediatric
Anesthesiology division of the Department of
Anesthesiology and Peri-Operative Medicine provides
comprehensive anesthesia and sedation services for
Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. DCH is a tertiary
surgical referral center for northern Idaho, southwest
Washington, as well as the state of Oregon. Our
department currently consists of thirteen, pediatric
subspecialty trained full and part-time
anesthesiologists. In 2004, we provided over 5000
general and regional anesthetics to pediatric patients
(including approximately 350 neonates) in 5 operating
rooms at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and several
peripheral locations on Marquam Hill. For more
information and preoperative examination scheduling,
contact our front desk at 503-418-5300.
Pediatric Sedation Service
The Pediatric Sedation
Service consists of nine registered nurses and two rotating
pediatric anesthesiologists who utilize anesthetic
techniques throughout Doernbecher Children’s Hospital,
The Casey Eye Institute, and OHSU’s Department of
Radiology. This service safely facilitates diagnostic radiologic examinations (MRI’s, CT scans, X-rays,
nuclear medicine studies, auditory exams, and eye exams)
and allows oncologic procedures, PICC line placements,
and other minor procedures to be performed with minimal
stress to pediatric patients. In 2004, in excess of
3300 pediatric sedations were performed by our staff.
For more information, contact Pediatric Sedation
Services at 503-494-3136.
Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia
The Pediatric Cardiac
Anesthesia Division currently consists of three faculty
members who, in 2004, performed over 300 anesthetics for
children and adults with congenital cardiac disease.
For appointment or referral information, contact
503-418-5750.

inpatient and outpatient services for the management of
chronic and acute pediatric pain. The multidisciplinary

(including acupuncture) for the relief of pediatric
pain. For more information, contact the Pediatric Pain
