In December 2006, OHSU performed its first cases in the new 3 OR suite Ambulatory Surgery Center and 2 OR suite Cosmetic Surgery Center, which are free-standing ambulatory surgery centers located on the fourth floor of the Center for Health & Healing (CHH). With the mission of providing excellence in outpatient surgical services, the peri-operative staff, anesthesia staff, and surgical
staff have gelled into an efficient, competent, and compassionate care team.
Since opening, we have performed over 2,400 outpatient procedures with a remarkably low hospital admission rate of 0.38 percent. Our efforts to provide multimodal pain relief after surgery, including our home pump perineural infusion service, are unequaled in the Portland area. We continue to rewrite the book on peri-operative surgical care delivery at OHSU and are leading the way for change in hospital-based practice as well. Feedback from patient surveys consistently reveals that patients are highly satisfied with the care they receive at CHH. We are working diligently to expand our services and participate in the recruitment of new surgical business.
