Dr. Suzan Dziennis joined the
Department of Anesthesiology & Peri-Operative
Medicine as a Research Fellow in March 2004. Her
current research interests include the
neuroprotective effects of estrogen following focal
cerebral ischemia. She is particularly interested
in estrogen-mediated signal transduction pathways
that lead to the upregulation of neuroprotective
genes. In July of 2005, she was awarded an NIH
National Research Service Award.
Dr. Dziennis earned the Ph.D.
from the Integrative Biomedical Sciences Program in
the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at
Oregon Health & Science University. Research for
her thesis focused on the molecular mechanisms of
neurotransmitter determination by the Il-6 family of
cytokines during development.
