Melissa Hernandez is a student
in the Neuroscience Graduate Program at Oregon
Health & Science University. She joined the
research team in the Department of Anesthesiology
and Peri-Operative Medicine in September 2006 and is
investigating the neuroprotective properties of
progesterone and the mechanisms that cause neuronal
death following ischemia.
Melissa received the Bachelor
of Science in Biology from the University of
California, Irvine (UCI) in June 2005. During her
undergraduate program, she conducted research at UCI
and at the Instituto de Neurobiología in Querétaro,
México. She studied the properties of
neurotransmitter receptors, particularly GABAc
receptors, and co-authored several related abstracts
for meetings across the country.
When she is not at school,
Melissa enjoys film, music, arts and crafts, and
gardening. |
