Dr. Paco Herson joined the Department of
Anesthesiology and Peri-Operative Medicine as an
Assistant Professor in 2004. He has a joint
appointment in the Neuroscience Graduate Program.
Recently, Dr. Herson’s research has focused on the
molecular mechanisms underlying gender differences
in susceptibility to stroke and its treatment.
Specifically, he is investigating the potential
benefits of naturally-occurring progesterone
metabolites in early post-stroke care.
Dr. Herson received a Bachelor
of Science in General Biology from the University of
California, San Diego in 1994 and was awarded the
Ph.D. in 1998 from the Department of Biomedical
Sciences at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. In
2003, he was appointed Research Assistant Professor
at the Vollum Institute at Oregon Health & Science
Univeristy after working for three years as a
Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute under the
direction of Drs. Adelman and Maylie.
