Clinical Trial for Diabetic Neuropathic Pain Treatment ABT-894 is an investigative drug for treating diabetic neuropathic pain (DNP), a condition resulting from nerve damage caused by diabetes. ABT-894 works by binding to neuronal nicotinic receptors in the brain. This trial is designed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of ABT-894 when compared to an approved treatment and placebo.
After baseline studies are completed, patients with DNP are randomized to receive ABT-894, duloxetine, or placebo twice a day for eight weeks. During their treatment, study subjects complete electronic questionnaires twice daily and visit the clinic every 1-2 weeks for a physical exam, additional questionnaires, and laboratory tests. Electrocardiograms are also performed at visit 6 and at the end of the treatment period. Patients return for a final follow-up visit one week after the treatment is finished.
This is a global multi-center trial.
