Critical Care Fellowship Program

Dear Applicant

Thanks you for your interest in our Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (CCM) Fellowship program. This is a 12-month program with two ACGME-approved positions.   Our program is for board eligible or certified anesthesiologists.  While we do not require internal medicine experience, it is always viewed favorably.  This 12 month program follows ABA guidelines and is designed to give exposure and training in multidisciplinary CCM with emphasis on surgical patients, but we also give plenty of opportunity for research. Our program follows the ABA guidelines, but the fellows are able to design most of their rotations including options like a Pediatric ICU rotation.  We follow a rolling application model and accept applications at any time.

Our department plays a significant role in Critical Care Medicine at OHSU.  We are a 501 bed hospital and have 80 adult ICU beds in total.  We are one of two level I trauma centers in Oregon and, therefore, see 2500 trauma patients per year.  Some other statistics to note:

*17 bed trauma unit

*20 bed cardiocurgical unit

*17 bed neurosurgical unit

*26 bed Medical ICU

All of these units except Medical beds are staffed by members of Anesthesiology.  We have a high ICU census which seasonal variations, usually between 75% and 95%.  Currently we have closed type ICUs, with emphasis on multidisciplinary and collaborative care. In addition, there is a pediatric ICU at the Doernbecher pediatric hospital run by a Pedicatric Intensivist team. As OHSU is the ultimate referral center for this and some parts of our neighboring states we see complex and interesting patients in all ICUs.

Portland is a beautiful city which holds many attractions.  Located near mountains and beaches, many consider this to be a perfect place to live.  The city has art, culture, and all the amenities of much larger cities.

I look forward to answering any other questions you may have and hope you will apply to our program.  Please contact our Assistant Education Manager with questions at 503-418-4164.
