76,000 Oregonians have Alzheimer's disease (AD) or a related disorder. These dementias are especially common with increasing age. Among those over 65, people over 85 years old are the fastest growing segment of our population. Up to half of these octogenarians will develop cognitive impairment or dementia.

Beginning in 1989, the Layton Aging & Alzheimer's Disease Center at Oregon Health & Science University has been dedicated to addressing this major public health problem by providing an integrated program of diagnosis, treatment and research.

The Center receives several important sources of support. Key to our Center is the support and designation from the National Institute on Aging as one of 30 Alzheimer's Disease Centers for research. We are particularly focused on research aimed at detecting and preventing cognitive decline at its earliest stages,

even prior to developing symptoms. Our vision is to add life to years, not simply years to life. In these pages you will find a breadth of information related to clinical programs, basic and clinical research, and educational activities and outreach all geared toward helping to solve the challenges of dementia.

We are here to help. Please feel free to contact us!
