AIRC Use Protocol
Following are instructions regarding use of the Advanced Imaging
Research Center at the Oregon Health and Science University.
- Submit a letter or email to Dr. Charles Springer
(springer@ohsu.edu) requesting use of the AIRC. Include in your
request the protocol for your project. You will be asked
eventually to present your project to the AIRC User Group in one
of their monthly meetings which are held on the third Tuesday of
each month.
- A copy of your IRB or IACUC approval must be submitted to
Joanne Putnam to be kept on file for audit review.
- The charge for AIRC usage is $475 per hour during the 2007 fiscal year
(July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007). These charges are based on calendared/reserved magnet time. Our projections for FY 09
(July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009) are:
3T Tim Trio at the AIRC facility in the Biomedical Research Building: $500/hour
7T Tim Trio at the AIRC facility in the Biomedical Research Building: $400/hour
Bruker 12T at the AIRC facility in the Biomedical Research Building: $125/hour (6am-6pm); $75/hour (6pm-6am)
A contrast reagent technician is available on an on-call basis at $40/hour. Studies needing
this service should contact Mrs. Putnam well in advance of the beginning of the study.
- We suggest a $600/hour projection be placed in your grant submissions which might be funded in 2009-2010.
- Collaborators outside of the OHSU system can be billed
if the user will submit their accounts payable address, contact name and phone number
to Joanne Putnam, Departmental Administrator (putnamjo@ohsu.edu). She will also need a
Purchase Order #, the amount of the PO and its billing dates. There is a separate industrial standard charge from those stated above.
For information about those charges please contact Mrs. Putnam.
- For the researchers inside the OHSU system
the following must be submitted to Mrs. Putnam to enable her to
use the internal billing system (IBS) at OHSU:
- Researchers name:
- Researchers phone number:
- Researchers fax number:
- Researchers email address:
- Researchers mailcode:
- Researchers department:
- Fiscal authority name:
- FAID#:
- Fiscal authority phone number:
- Fiscal authority fax number:
- Project Title:
- Project dates:
- Account number or Grant number including Alias:
The AIRC acts as a service facility - with a fixed charging rate.
So far, we have been approving pilot time requests for all
reasonable studies. Pilot time without charge is available on a
limited basis (up to 15 hours) for researchers who are still in the
process of obtaining funding. In order to set this up so that it can
be scheduled, we need a brief description of the studies and an
estimate of how much time you will require for your initial pilot
work. We are encouraging new investigations. In the not too
distant future, however, the AIRC must become completely self
sufficient - funded by grants to AIRC faculty and by income from the
service utilization. If you would like to request pilot time be sure
to include this request in your letter or email to Dr. Springer when
you request use of the AIRC.
As an AIRC user you will be given "Proxy" access by Mrs. Putnam
to the Imaging Center magnet calendars and also the Imaging Center lab
calendar to enable your scheduling of MR time. If you have research
associates/assistants who will also be using the AIRC please advise
Mrs. Putnam of their names so they too will be given access.
The Siemens 3T Trio and 7T MR instruments may be operated only by a person certified
by the AIRC management. This is also the case with the 12T Bruker system. There are two levels of training and training is REQUIRED.
AIRC safety training is ~ 45 to 60 minutes in length and is held
the first Tuesday of each month at 9:45 am in the 3T Tim Trio Control Room. (BRB 1st floor room 148) by Mike Nettleingham. When the group size exceeds 2 or 3 people it will be in the conference room (room 142) which is 2 doors north of the control room.
Please send Mike a request to attend: nettlein@ohsu.edu. Safety training Pre-requisites are:
Completed MRI Worker Safety questionnaire (can be obtained at the training session).
HIPPA training certificate, HIPPA is an OHSU requirement
First Aid certificate
CPR is not required for safety training, but it is required for Operators training, a copy of which will be kept on file by Ms. Kahrmann..
ONPRC operators can defer the CPR if they only do primates. New
Operator training will be arranged on a case-by-case basis, and conducted individually by and with the PI or it can be scheduled with Dr. Xin Li.
