Sports & Spine Rehabilitation Program

The OHSU Sports & Spine Rehabilitation Program treats patients of any age with acute, subacute, or chronic musculoskeletal problems. We coordinate medical management and rehabilitation to provide the best possible match of evaluation and treatments that will serve each patient's long-term needs.

The OHSU Sports & Spine Rehabilitation Program helps people who struggle with an injury or musculoskeletal problems to get more out of each day. We emphasize the medical and surgical treatment of:
  • sports and running injuries
  • knee and shoulder injuries
  • acute and chronic back problems
  • cartilage and ligament tears
  • arthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases
Our services include:
  • comprehensive musculoskeletal examinations, including biomechanical and motion assessments
  • electrodiagnostic testing, including electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies
  • specialized care for women, including treatment of back pain during pregnancy and pain related to osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures
  • exercise plans
  • pre-participation sports examinations
Our program is backed by the advanced medical research, technology, and full resources of OHSU, Oregon's only health and research university.

Research shows that many sports and spine injuries respond to strengthening, flexibility, and cardiovascular programs. Our doctors and therapists use a more "physical" approach to physical therapy. Through exercise and stretching, patients are able to restore movement and function, prevent reinjury, and reduce both the frequency and severity of pain. Our objective is to transition patients into a long-term, independent exercise program so patients can maintain their progress and stay active for many years.
