St. Vincent's Hospital
Year 1—low risk OB
Year 2—benign gynecology
Year 3—gynecologic oncology
Year 4—benign gynecology
The St Vincent’s site is the primary off-hill site for surgical training. Four residents are placed at St Vincent’s at a time, and cover call at the hospital through a schedule of assigned nights. Residents are always off post-call.
Year 1 is spent full time on Labor and Delivery, working with Kaiser and private attendings. Year 2 is spent in the OR with a variety of Kaiser and private practice physicians. One half day per week of this rotation is spent in the perinatal center performing obstetrical ultrasound. Year 3 is spent primarily with Dr. Jana Reddoch, a gyn oncologist in private practice, as her first assistant. Residents highly value this rotation as they perform their side of lymph node dissections and ovarian cancer debulkings as appropriate. One half day per week in the R3 rotation is spent in breast clinic. The R4 rotation is a very busy one, working with several busy private practice groups, and it is not unusual for this resident to have 10-14 post operative patients in house at once. These rotations are generally surgical, and residents generally average three major cases per day on these rotations.
