Biosketch:

Dr. Chesnutt is Associate Professor Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at OHSU. In 1982, Dr. Chesnutt graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Chemistry from Pacific Lutheran University. He received his MD degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1986. He then completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Chesnutt joined the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care in 1996. In 2005, Dr. Chesnutt became the Medical Director of Critical Care at the Portland VA Medical Center. Dr. Chesnutt directs the OHSU Center for Intensive Care Research. His research interests include acute lung injury and sepsis.

Nationally recognized for his expertise on Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia, Dr. Chesnutt helped establish an HHT Center of Excellence at OHSU in 1998. The OHSU HHT Center is part of a network of worldwide multi-disciplinary HHT Centers of Excellence. The OHSU HHT Center provides comprehensive screening and treatment for this complex genetic disorder. Dr. Chesnutt regulary gives presentations on the pulmonary manifestations of HHT including talks at the yearly HHT Foundation International Conference which is a forum for patients with this disorder and for physicians to learn about the evaluation and treatment of people with HHT.

Dr. Chesnutt has been invited to give numerous lectures and conference presentations at local, regional, national and international levels and has authored a variety of publications including the Lung chapter in the regularly updated text Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment .
