Oregon Nursing Services Program

(Formally the Oregon Nursing Loan Program)

The Oregon Nursing Services Program is designed to recruit registered nurses (RNs) to the designated critical nursing shortage areas and specialties throughout Oregon.  Participants receive annual payments toward the debt incurred during their professional nursing program in exchange for qualifying service. Annual employment verification is required.

Morris K. Udall Scholarship Program

Nursing Scholastic Achievement Scholarships

Scholarships for communicant members of Lutheran congregations who are juniors or seniors in a school of nursing. Career Advancement Scholarships

Applicants must be women who are at least 25 years of age, citizens of the US, within 2 years of completing their course of study, officially accepted into an accredited or course of study at an American institution, in financial need, and planning to use the desired training to improve their chances for advancement, train for a new career field, or enter/reenter the job market. They must be in a transitional period in their lives and be interested in studying one of the following fields: biological sciences, computer science, engineering, or for a professional degree (JD, DDS, MD). Health Professions Preparatory Scholarships

Applicants must be American Indians or Alaska Native; be high school graduates or the equivalent; have the capacity to complete a health professions course of study; and be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a compensatory or preprofessional general education course or curriculum. The qualifying fields of study include pre-medical technology, pre-dietetics, pre-nursing, pre-pharmacy, pre-physical therapy, and pre-social work. Public Health Scholarship Award

Five $2,000 unrestricted scholarship awards are awarded to students who have captured the vision of public health and have committed their energies to working for the enrichment of public health service to the world community. Community College Transfer Scholarship

This scholarship is for Hispanic community college students transferring to a four-year institution within the next academic year. The application period for the 2002 - 2003 Scholarship is from December 1, 2001 - February 15, 2002. Applicants must be part-time or full-time community college students and be of Hispanic heritage (one parent full or both parents half-Hispanic). Applicants must be US citizen or legal permanent resident, have at least a 3.0 GPA and be transferring to an accredited four-year institution in the 2002-2003 academic year on a full time basis.

Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber Scholarships

To provide support and encourage Hispanics to continue their higher education. Any person of Hispanic ancestry in Oregon or SW Washington interested in continuing their education in a community college, four year college or university, must have at least a 2.75 GPA as evidenced by a certified high school or college transcript. Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Scholarships

The program currently offers over 30 awards, with an annual total of over $60,000 in scholarships to qualified students nationwide. This scholarships offer students at the entering freshman, undergraduate, graduate, law, financial need and creative & performing arts a one-time award. Eligibility require all applicants to be National JACL members. The Ford Scholars Program

Each year 100 new Ford Scholars are selected in Oregon, with additional Scholars selected from Siskiyou county, California. The scholarship is not for a set amount, but is calculated to cover 90% of each student's college costs that are not covered by other grants and scholarships. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study. All applicants must have high school diplomas or GED certificates or be about to complete high school. Tylenol Health Education Scholarships

McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals, makers of the Tylenol family of products, has announced that students preparing for health-related careers can apply for one of 160 grants from the Tylenol Brand Scholarship Fund. This year's fund will total $250,000, including ten grants of $10,000 each and 150 grants of $1,000 each. To be eligible, applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate course of study in the fall of 2002 at an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational-technical school. Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP): New Opportunities for Registered Nurses

This program is designed to assist in the recruitment and retention of registered nurses dedicated to providing health care to underserved populations by providing substantial economic assistance to repay their educational loans in exchange for service to the underserved in eligible health facilities. All NELRP participants must enter into a contract agreeing to provide full-time employment in an approved eligible health facility for 2 or 3 years. In return, the NELRP will pay 60 percent of the participants's total qualifying loan balance for a 2-year commitment or 85 percent for a 3-year commitment.
