Gates Millennium Scholarship

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) scholarship is open to students who will be enrolling for the first time at a U.S. accredited college or university as a full time, degree seeking, first year student; have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities; is a citizen/legal permanent or nationals of the United States; have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted); meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria; and have all three forms (Nominee Personal Information Form, Nominator Form and Recommender Form) completed and submitted by the deadline.
Deadline: Materials must be submitted on-line on or before January 2008 or postmarked before January 2008.

Ron Brown Scholarships

Offered to high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicant must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. Applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.
Amount: $10,000 annually for four years, for a total of $40,000

Jackie Robinson Scholarship

For minority high school senior, accepted to a 4-year accredited college or university and a citizen of the United States; have demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need; show evidence of leadership potential and interest in their communities. All applicants are required to take either the Standardized Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) and submit their scores.

Stokes Educational Scholarship Program (formerly known as the Undergraduate Training Program)

Program for high school seniors (particularly minorities) who are interested in studying Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering,or Mathematics. Program offers tuition at college of choice, books reimbursement, housing and travel entitlements during summer employment (if the distance between NSA and the school exceeds 75 miles), year-round salary and employment with NSA after graduation. Applicants must be U.S. citizen; a high school senior at time of application; must achieve a minimum SAT/College Board Score of 1600 (1100 Critical Reading and Math, 500 in Writing), or ACT of 25; must have at least 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale; and must demonstrate leadership abilities.

Health Professions Preparatory Scholarships

Applicants must be American Indians or Alaska Native; be high school graduates or the equivalent; have the capacity to complete a health professions course of study; be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a compensatory or preprofessional general education course or curriculum; and intend to serve Indian people upon completion of professional health care education and training as a health care provider in the discipline/specialty for which he/she is taking preparatory courses and for which the application is submitted. The qualifying fields of study include pre-dietetics, pre-engineering, pre-nursing, pre-pharmacy, etc.

Al-Ben Scholarship

Scholarship is open to African American students attending college in the United States. Preference will be given to students who are in Los Angeles area (Southern California residents). Three types of awards will be granted: Scholastic Achievement Awards, Professional Merit Awards and Academic Excellence Incentive Awards. See website for award criteria in each category.

American Chemical Society Scholars Program

This scholarship program is to encourage African-American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian students who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically related science and planning a career in the chemical sciences or chemical technology. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident who is a full time student at an accredited college, university or community college. Should be high academic achievers in chemistry or science with GPA of 3.0, "B" or better. Able to demonstrate evidence of financial need according to FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the Student Aid Report (SAR) form. A high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemistry related science (Note: Students planning careers in medicine or pharmacy are not eligible for this program).

Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Scholarships

The program currently offers over 30 awards, with an annual total of over $60,000 in scholarships to qualified students nationwide. These scholarships are offered to entering freshmen, undergraduate, graduate, law and creative & performing arts students in financial need at a one-time award. Eligibility requires all applicants to be active National JACL members. Applicants must be planning to attend a college, university, trade school, business school, or any other institution of higher learning at the undergraduate or graduate school level in the fall of 2007. Deadline for entering Freshman is March 1, 2007 and all other applicants is April 1, 2007.

"My Turn" Essay Competition

Sponsored by Kaplan Inc. and Newsweek. High school students nationwide may compete for a $5,000 scholarship. Students need to write a 500 to 1000 words essay describing personal experiences that have made a difference in their lives. Competition will award ten winners. The second place winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship and eight runners-up will receive $1000 scholarships. In addition to the scholarship, a winning essay may be published in Newsweek magazine.

Ford Scholars Program

Each year 100 new Ford Scholars are selected in Oregon, with additional scholars selected from Siskiyou county, California. This is a need-based scholarship. Applicants must be residents of Oregon or Siskiyou County, California and must not previously earned a bachelor's degree; must also be a high school graduate (or the equivalent) and never have enrolled full time in a 2 or 4 year college; enrol full time, on campus, in the fall of the application year at an accredited, public or private, nonprofit college or university in their home state; have a GPA of 3.00 or better. This program meets 90% of the recipient's "unmet financial need" as determined by the college of attendance and is renewable annually.

Ford Opportunity Program

This program is to assist college students who are single parents and living in Oregon. Each year, 50 students are selected in Oregon to receive this scholarships. Applicants must be residents of Oregon who are single parents and also heads of households. All applicants must have high school diplomas or GED certificates or be about to complete high school, or be continuing college students; have a GPA of 3.00 or better; be seeking a four-year bachelor's degree (recipients may attend a community college but only with the intention of transferring and obtaining a bachelor's degree); and attend an accredited, public or private nonprofit Oregon college or university full time, on campus, in the fall of application year and not previously have earned a bachelor's degree. Scholarship award amounts are calculated annually and are dependent upon the college cost of attendance (including tuition, fees, room & board, books, transportation, and childcare if applicable), less the federal expected family contribution (EFC) and other scholarships or gift aid.

Health Professions Pregraduate Scholarship Program/ Indian Health Service

The program provides financial support for American Indian and Alaska Native (Federally or State recognized) students only to enroll in courses leading to a bachelor degree in specific preprofessional areas (premedicine and predentistry). Applicants must be high school graduate or equivalent; have the capacity to complete a health professions course of study; be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment in a bachelor degree program for premedicine or predentistry or their equivalents; and intend to serve Indian people upon completion of professional health care education and training as a health care provider in the disciplines/specialty for which the applicant is enrolled at the pregraduate level and for which the application is submitted.

Albina Rotary Foundation/Neil Kelly Memorial Scholarship

An annual scholarship offered to high school seniors in North and Northeast Portland in honor of Neil Kelly, an entrepreneur and community activist. Japanese American Community Scholarships

The scholarships are sponsored by Portland-area businesses and organizations. To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Clackamas, Multnomah or Washington County, Oregon or Clark, County, Washington, must be of Japanese ancestry, and must have at least one parent or guardian of Japanese ancestry. The student must have attended four years of high school (or the equivalent) in the United States, and either the student or parent must belong to a participating organization including the Buddhist Daihonzan Henjyoji Temple, Epsworth United Methodist Church, Gresham-Troutdale Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), Japanese Ancestral Society (Nikkei Jinkai), Japanese Women's Society (Nikkei Fujinkai), Nichiren Buddhist Temple, Oregon Buddhist Temple, Oregon Nisie Veterans, Portland JACL, Shokookai, and Veleda.

Philippine American Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Program

The Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Oregon (PACCO) awards four scholarships each year to high school seniors or current college students to recognize volunteer work, extra-curricular activities and academic achievement. Applicants must be high school seniors or current college students of Filipino descent and legal residents of Oregon and Washington. PACCO Scholarship committee will select recipients on the following criteria: number of community volunteer service hours; leadership awards and honors; appraisal/recommendation completed by supervisor, leader or teacher, essay, GPA of 3.00 or better and financial need.

Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber Scholarships

To provide support and encourage Hispanics to continue their higher education, the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber awards scholarships annually. Applicants must be of Hispanic ancestry in Oregon or Clark County, Washington interested in continuing their education in a community college, four-year college or university; must have at least a 2.75 GPA as evidenced by a certified high school or college transcript; must be enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university before funds are distributed to the institutions.
