Corporate Housing
If you are staying for more than a few days, another option for a short stay is corporate housing. It is generally a bit more expensive then staying in a private home, but usually less expensive than staying in a hotel.  They often provide amenities such as orientations to the Portland area, fully stocked kitchens, and other services. Prices vary greatly, depending on location and services offered.    Click here to see a listing of some corporate housing options in the Portland area.

Hostels
There are two youth hostels in the Portland area.  Click here for more information.

Transportation
If you are flying into Portland International Airport, there are several options available to you.

Airport Shuttle:  First, ask your hotel if they provide shuttle service to and from the airport.  Many hotels offer a free airport shuttle.

There are also many private companies who provide shuttle service, which is usually a little cheaper than taking a cab.  For a list of these companies, look under Airport Transportation in the yellow pages.

Lightrail / MAX:  Portland’s Lightrail goes from the airport to downtown and many other destinations.  It leaves every fifteen minutes from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every day of the week.  For information on specific stops, see their website. http://www.trimet.org/schedule/r090.htm

The fee for taking the MAX is $1.55 and you must buy your ticket before boarding.  There is a ticket vending machine located next to the boarding area.

*When returning to the airport, make sure you board a Red line MAX.

Taxicabs:   As you leave the airport from the baggage claim area, you will see a line of taxicabs.   It is customary to take the first cab in the line.

Renting a Car:  Most local car rental companies have branches directly at the airport and in the downtown area.  For a listing of car rental companies, look in the yellow pages under Auto Rental.
