Where should I live?

Portland is a great city for commuting, so live in whichever neighborhood suits your needs!  Check out the Tri-Met site for park and rides and bus routes throughout the greater Portland area. Bus # 8 is the OHSU/downtown bus that runs 7 days per week while #’s 61, 64, 65, 66, &68 run Monday-Friday during commuter times only. Carpooling is a popular option for students. Contact the Parking Office at (503) 494-8283 for more information.  The main University address is 3181 SW Sam Jackson Park Road Portland, OR 97239.

'On the Hill'

The main OHSU Campus is located on the Marquam Hill, in the Homestead neighborhood, in downtown SW Portland. The portion of the Homestead neighborhood that is within walking distance of OHSU is commonly refered to as 'the hill'.
It is a quiet, almost exclusively residential neighborhood. There is one convenience store and one pizza place within walking distance.  If you will have a car, there is shopping, restaurants, coffee shops etc. within about a five minute drive.  If you will be using public transportation, plan on at least a 20 minute bus ride for grocery shopping, dining, etc.  As many incoming students choose to stay close to campus, start looking early. Apartments open up year round, but around midsummer they start to fill up quickly.

The greater Portland area is divided into four main quadrants, divided east and west by the Willamette River and north and south by Burnside Street. Each quadrant is unique and has its own personality.
