Airport Information

If you are flying into Portland International Airport, there are several transportation options available to you.

Light-rail/MAX
Portland's light rail, MAX, travels from the airport to downtown, and many other destinations. The MAX leaves the airport every 15 minutes between 5 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. every day of the week. For information on specific stops, look at the TriMet Web site. The fee for taking the MAX from Portland International to downtown currently is $1.55, and you must purchase your ticket before boarding. The trip on the lightrail from the airport to downtown takes 38 minutes. There are ticket machines located both inside the airport near the exit that leads to the boarding area and in the boarding area itself.

*When traveling to the airport, be sure you board a Red-line MAX to go all of the way to the airport.

Airport Shuttle
If you will be staying at a hotel, ask if it provides a shuttle service to and from the airport. Many hotels offer a free airport shuttle included in the price of the room. There are also many private companies who provide shuttle service, which can be less expensive than taking a cab because cabs charge a flat fee, usually per person. For a list of these companies, look under “Airport Transportation” in the Yellow Pages.

Taxicabs
As you leave the airport from the baggage claim area, you will see a line of taxicabs. It is customary to take the first cab in line. The fare from the Portland International Airport to downtown is approximately $30 and is about 15 miles.

Renting a Car
Most local car rental companies have a branch at the airport. For a listing of car rental companies, look in the Yellow Pages under “Auto Rental.” Parking at OHSU can be difficult at times. Contact your department or the Parking Office ahead of time to make sure it will be available to you.
